Good morning blog!
I am stoked, excited, elated, joyful, ecstatic! Ill post
pictures when I’m home!
This past weekend was awesome! Friday was Nicole’s boyfriend’s
surprise Birthday. We all went to the Fort pub and yelled surprise when he and
Nicole showed. The rest of the night was spent eating waaay too much food,
laughing and even seeing one of our clients on the patio which was night. As a
designated driver I got to drive Corey and spencer’s intoxicated butts home and
they serenaded me with lovely radio tunes.
Then I got to celebrate 7 years with my boyfriend,
Corey. It was beyond fantastic. Our
anniversary was on the 20th but he asked if we wanted to celebrate
the whole weekend. Hells yea! We decided to head down to Stanley Park and walk
around the seawall for Saturday. So that morning we woke up and I drove down to
my parents to drop off Zoey for the day. After what seemed like forever, Corey
shows up and off we go! As we drove through Vancouver he sees my aunts hotel up
ahead and points it out casually. As we get closer, corey isn’t pulling out of
the left hand lane and parked cars are in front of us. I’m thinking, he’s going
to drive into the back of the parked cars but nope, he pulls over and gives me
a fist bump. What the heck?
Surprise! He got a deal on a fancy pants room at my aunts
hotel and we were going to be spending the weekend! It was lovely. We parked
the car and made out way up to the hotel. The room was fantastic and had a big
soaker tub. Our view was of the city streets below so people watching was lots
of fun. My aunt left us a little note and bag of goodies in our room too which
was very sweet.
After checking in and dropping off our stuff we decided to
walk around the city. We didn’t get too far before we discovered Pacific Center
mall. Two shops in we spotted a shirt in a window and that lead to a very long
shopping session. Corey got to try on a ton of snazzy new outfits and I kept
bringing him stuff to try on. It was a ton of fun and the little fashion show he gave me kept me smiling the whole time.
After our shopping exploration we dropped out
stuff off at the room again and continued our stroll, heading to the art
gallery. Along the way we passed Granville street which is closed to vehicles
and only open to pedestrian traffic. They had all sorts of booths and vendors
along the road to check out. Eventually
we found the art gallery but it was closed! Oh well, we checked out the Robson
street ice rink and looked at all the street performers and artists there. A wet
chalk artist was drawing a replica of the Girl with a Pearl Earing. Stunning!
Over the street you could see the faded remains of previous works. There was a
really cool wave bench made out of wood for everyone to sit on. It was all
really neat.
We eventually made our way back to our suite to drop stuff
off then headed out to dinner. By that time our feet were tired so we stopped
at the Keg down the block. We asked to sit in a quiet corner and we got
this lovely L shaped bench seat. I got to kick off my boots (AT the keg! lol) and strech out while we waited for food. Classy, I know. Another older lady sat across from us so the
first bit of our dinner was nice as quiet. A few minutes later a mom, dad and
their two year old son show up and apologized for being placed next to us. We
laughed it off and said no worries. We ended up chatting with them the entire
meal! They were nothing short of hilarious and very open to chat about
everything under the sun. Their son was such a cutie too and they said he was
smitten with me, playing coy and peeking at me whenever my head was turned.
They joked and said Corey better watch out. When I went to the bathroom their
son got all out of sorts and shouted “LADY? WHERES LADY?” making the whole
section erupt in laughter. Too cute!
After they left we stuck around for a bit and enjoyed the
quiet that followed while we tried to keep our very large meal down.
After dinner (and dessert! Oh god billy miner pie!) we
walked down to 5 sails and watched the boats on the water and took a bunch of
silly pictures as the sun went down.
We went to the tim hortons across the street from our hotel
and got hot chocolate and people watched from the bar stool windows. People
watching in Vancouver is……interesting to say the least. We saw some pretty
interesting people. And had a hilarious moment with a bunch of guys on the
other side of the glass when we spotted them checking out a girl that was 90%
made up of boobs and ass. They looked
over and saw that we caught them but Corey gave a huge smile and thumbs up. The
boys died of laughter on the street and we were nearly in tears laughing.
After people watching the night was completed with a bubble
bath!
The next morning we got up and walked around the city after
a lovely sit down breakfast in the hotel’s restaurant. This time Granville
street had a car show hosted by one of the local pop radio stations. It was a
lot of fun and there was even a corvette!
We eventually made it to the art gallery. I had never been
before and good god was it weird! I know, who am I to say ‘that’s not art!’ but
I went wtf at most of the stuff we saw there.
A lot of the first floor was a crap ton of nick-nacks and
shit piled on tables, dribbled with paint and called ‘memories’ or ‘childhood’.
It looked like a hoarders house to be honest. Then there were messy lego towers
that looked like nothing. Ugly painting done in colors taken from what looks
like a sewage inspired palette.
One room was kinda cool. It was a bunch of words printed on
canvases. Not really my idea of art still.
One room was by an artist that made a bunch of canvases
covered in dots and googly eyes. A white
replica of the twin towers stood in the middle. I didn’t really get it at first
until we read the little arists note in the corner. We had to look at the
canvases through a smart phone. Voila! The smartphone lens actually contorted
the dots a bit and we could see pictures of the falling man, airplanes, fires
and Osama bin Laden. Very cool but very haunting.
Cue more rooms with shit piled in them and called art.
The main exhibit called Lost in the Memory Palace, was on
the third floor by a couple called Janet Cardiff and George Miller.
What the fuck.
The exhibit comprised of 9 very dark, soundproof rooms. The
first one we entered, we had to go down a hallway so quiet it made my ears
hurt. Once inside the room there was a setup of very old technology (radios,
blinking lights, sound systems) and a old rotten dentist chair. Around it where
robotic arms with needles that stabbed and moved around the chair. Eerie music
was playing and I suddenly got chills. Gross. This is art? No, this is a
madhouse.
We booked it out of there and went to the next room. The
hair on the back of my neck stood on end the whole time. If I was going to ever
be murdered, it was in this next room. Inside the dark room was a shitty little
shack with a window you could look inside. Albums, old boxes, nick nacks, string,
shit in general was inside. A speaker with a man’s voice was speaking slowly
about how the music made him go mad or insane. Creepy.
We left that and went into another room that looked like a
hoarder’s palace with a bunch of speakers with the man and woman speaking
quietly or counting.
The one room I did enjoy was a dark room with a large table
in the middle. Small lights lit up the table that was covered in speakers.
Little sensors across the table would activate each speaker when you walked
around the room and cast your shadow on them.
It was really cool and each speaker was different, making a
dissonance of sound. The cacophony I created at one end of the table made me
feel so cool.
The rest of the exhibits were pretty lame but we enjoyed
ourselves regardless. We walked around Vancouver some more and saw a HUGE
pendulum inside a glass building.
We checked out of the hotel and headed for home.
We picked up Spencer once we got into town and headed to
value village to pick up very ugly outfits for out Ugly Outfit night at Pender.
I am so excited for my horrendous attire!
We strolled through the mall and then the three of us had
sushi. Not a bad weekend If I do say so myself!
4 HOURS TILL IM OFF WORK THEN ON VACATION MODE!!!!!!!
I am so excited!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
