Grandfather

I dream of a black hummingbird
I remember your voice
Word for word
Your endearing patience
Imagination spurred
Our time together
Though memories blurred
I miss you
My humming bird

It's Monday? & Experience Challenge #12

I had a few attempts to write this blog during the past three days but I just couldn’t find enough time to sit down and actually get it done. I somehow got to work 20 minutes early so I don’t think there’s any better time than now.
It was one of those weekends that end way too quickly but are jam packed. Friday I worked late and then had to skip back over to our local movie theater and met up with some friends for a double feature. Strangely enough the theater was empty for a Friday. We got awesome seats in the middle but soon enough these three huge, nerdy guys come and sit right in front of us. At first my group and I exchanged some “oh boy, this is going to suck” glances but it turns out that we laughed at the commentary from these guys more than we enjoyed the movie. We watched City of Bones and boy it was filled with bad acting and horrible lines. While that was enough to get the four of us giggling, the comments from the peanut gallery in front of us made us lose it.
Saturday Corey and I got up early and picked up Nicole for some breakfast before us ladies headed down to the states for some cross border shopping. Now in this massive line up there were firefighters holding boots out for change to support the Burn Fund. Luck was on my side and I had a super cute fire fighter on the driver’s side. We scraped together all the dog hairy change from my center console and each handed it to the firefighters on either side in exchange for giant stickers and tattoos.
Nicole’s creep firefighter didn’t want to take his eyes off her as we slowly crawled ahead in the lineup. We were joking around and I stuck the sticker on her leg and she made a big ordeal of taking it off and putting it back on straight while the creepy guy stared at her intensely. Weeeiiiird!
We finally made it through and took the I-5 down to Bellis Fair mall and then continued to purchase waaaay too many boots and witnessed some strange guy in a trench coat make crazy keyboard space sounds with his mouth to a very confused sales rep in a store we were in.
We then had to rush back to the motherland so I could head out to class. Holy torrential rain batman! Even with my windshield wipers on full blast I struggled to see the highway.
After class I went to pick up some Vietnamese food to bring to my dad who’s been in the hospital with a ruptured appendix for the past week. He’s finally been given the go ahead to eat certain foods and he was desperate for some Pho.
I have never tried Vietnamese food before so I decided grab some for myself too before I headed up to the hospital. I haven’t seen him look this excited for food before. After being allowed nothing for two days and only water and juice for another two, food was a very welcome sight.
I wasn’t sure what the hell I was supposed to do with the large number of containers we were given at first. The broth was delicious and we got rare steak sliced paper thin and you put it in the broth to cook with these long flat noodles and veggies. Yum! We knocked back our dinner and then brought out these cup of green custard looking stuff my dad had requested from the Pho place. I love custards and this was no exception. I don’t know what it was called but it was bright green and tasted like coconut. So good!
So my need food experience has been had and I think I’m going to try to convince Corey to go get some Pho sometime next week.
Sunday was the day of errand running but luckily we had a great night with friends who came over for dinner and to watch the show finale of Breaking Bad. To be honest it wasn’t as on the edge of your seat as some of the other episodes but it wrapped it up decently. It’s kind of sad that something we enjoyed so thoroughly is now over.

Exam Slam!

I did it! I passed my first exam at the dog trainer’s academy! I was super nervous for it but once I got down to answering questions, it really wasn’t that hard. I scored 98% and my jaw dropped when I saw that mark. Yay! I really think all the experience of working in the daycare really helps. I see dogs on a daily basis and really have first-hand experience in behaviors and the like. One question that stumped me was part of the scientific learning theory. All those terms associated with that part of the module are just all so wordy that my brain turns to mush. Despite this module being over I still want to study those terms and really get it down so I can be confident with what I have been taught.
In other exciting accomplishments, today I left Zoey at home while I picked up and dropped off another dog at the daycare. I was gone for just over an hour and when I came back and opened the door, there was no black fuzzy bum waiting desperately at the door. At first I was concerned because normally she waits by the door for us to come back. Not this time! I called her and she came loping out of our bedroom and gave a big stretch and a yawn. Little lady was sleeping! Once she realized I was back I got a very excited wiggle but it was so nice to see her comfortable enough to snooze in another room while we were away. Go Zoey!
Since we taught Zo to press buttons from rewards, I’ve found that I can’t leave the button on the ground anymore. I gave her a treat to chew before bed and Corey and I got all snuggled down with the lights off when I hear the button go off four times.
“Zo?”
“UH-UH!”
I get out of bed and turn on the light in the living room. She looks at me with an excited expression and pounces on the button before turning to me expectantly. Lol you little stinker.

Fall

Oh Monday, it’s you again. I wrote a draft of this blog post last night to finish it this morning but it was gone, as well as two other drafts I had. Where did you put them, blogger? I had to write this all out again!

Corey has taken to playing a dangerous game. He wakes up way earlier than I do so he can get ready and drive out to work at obscene hours of the morning. Normally he kisses me goodbye as he’s about to leave and I’m still hidden in the covers but lately he’s been snuggling up for a few minutes before he leaves. Now that’s some willpower I don’t have!
Yesterday was the first day of fall and our lovely little province seems to be taking it to heart from day one. Yesterday it poured and it was windy and so gross. That’s BC for you. Somehow the residents of this province (Myself included) are always surprised at how much it rains here. I always seem to be caught off guard at how the leaves change so suddenly. I never seem to notice it when only one or two leaves start to turn. It’s usually upon a trip to my parents where the streets are lined with gorgeous maples that BAM all of a sudden half the street is brilliant red. This year was a little different. I caught a few trees in the act. Here it comes. I can’t wait for it to look so pretty.
Keeping on the brighter side of the cooler months, with fall comes some of my favorite foods. I celebrated the start of the season with a Starbucks date with a friend of mine who I haven’t seen in over a month. The cafĂ© was jam packed so we had to sit outside. Despite the cold, it was nice.
I also ordered my costume for Halloween. I’m super excited. All I need now is someone to host a damn party!
Corey and I finally got caught up on Breaking Bad yesterday and watched episodes 13 and 14 before dinner and were blown away! I don’t think I’ve ever been so anxious or nervous for a TV series before. My anxiety actually gets so ramped up during some of the scenes that it feels like I’m the one about to be shot or caught. It’s just that intense. I love it.
I made us a very fall dinner before we settled down to watch the newest episode. Roasted candied yams and spaghetti squash with homemade pork dumplings and sea salt peas with Roast peaches and ice cream for dessert. Omg so good.
We hunkered down for the newest intense episode and now we are so antsy for next Sunday to come. In the same hand we almost don’t want it to. It’s like finishing a series of really good books. They have taken you to another world for such an intense journey that once you read that last page, it’ over. Nothing new will happen. It always makes me sad when I finish a good book. Finishing the Harry Potter series was next to devastating as I grew up on that stuff.
That said, finishing a series is also kind of like closure as long as no aggravating open ends are left unanswered.
